Placidochromis sp."mbamba" is living in intermediate zones from rocks to sand and above the sandbottom. This species can be found near Mandalawi Reef (also referred to as RhoadeĀ“s Bank), a little western from Mbamba Bay in Tanzania. In the lake the males of these species can grow to 17 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 20 cm, females grow to about 15 cm. Placidochromis sp."mbamba" is a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with multiple females and with other quiet species, mbunas are generally too aggresive, in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. In the lake they are mainly feeding with sediment from the rocks and the sand but they are mainly attracted by whirled up dirt in which they are searching for food. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix. |
